RoadDear Colleagues,
The First International Congress of Eurasian Maritime History, held in Istanbul between 5-8 November 2012, was successfully carried out by Piri Reis University.
Academicians, historians, and researchers from 21 different countries including Turkey participated in the Congress and more than 100 papers were submitted. The academic level, huge number of papers and the quality made this Congress unique and peculiar.
Throughout the Congress, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Agean Sea, the Ionion Sea and the Indian Ocean syndicates took place, together with Nautical Archeology, Shipbuilding, Health, Training, US-Ottoman Relations, Trade, Strategy and War, East-West Relations, and Archieves syndicates. New and unpublished information and documents were also introduced.
Now, we are working on the proceedings which will be published in the first quarter of the new year. Of course, collection of full text of presented papers are of paramount importance at this stage.
Although the First Congress is finished, this is actually the beginning of a series of congresses that will be carried out in the future not only in Turkey, but also in other countries. During this congress International Association of Maritime Studies was founded with a few number of participating academicians. The details and the method of studies will be promulgated on this website soon.
As Congress Chairman, I would like to thank all the participants and those who contributed to the event.
I hope to meet with you in another congress.
It is a job well done.
